<-- dorm/hostel
Today started off with a pinch of reality. The day before felt so much like a dream that has ended. I woke up abruptedly with one of my roommates,Chin Xiang rolled around and hit into me. It was a comical morning call for me. Although we were supposedly to sleep on different beds, i did not have a bed sheet the day before so Chin Xiang was nice enough to offer to share with me his bed.
I dragged myself to the other side of the room to grab my watch to check the time.6.30am......was what reflected off the watch and i was like lookss like im early to wake up....I decided to do my daily routine of brushing teeth and bathing before looking out my room just to realised by the window that the morning sunlight shining through the thick fog that shrouded the business of the roadside stalls.
Looking around the room, i sudden came to my senses that the living conditions were not that bad despite the cockroach hunting and maintaining cleanliness as well as washing, drying clothes, it was all good.
I met with the rest for the opening ceremony and orientation later on around 9am. The seriousness of Professor Mah, Vice-President of WUST and Professor Pang of DEAN at orientation at the lecture hall really struck me when they did their opening speech.
They sincerely hope to have the best and welcome us, and even talked about the rules and conduct and tried their very best to adapt to our needs and wants. I was really impressed on how good their English really is and i feel that the opening ceremony was a success. The whole ceremony was around 15-20minutes. After that we were introduced to the lecture hall and tutorial rooms we were going to use for the remaining of our studies. After Lunch was the buying of Sim card and buying of daily necessities which lasted a few hours. Mr Phua tried to help us out with the Sim card issue and thats how i took the opportunity to observed the culture of the Chinese people on how they run a service transaction. Quoted from Mr Phua ”if the organisation do not have a culture, they have a peoples culture”. This left me deep in thought about the whole event that happened about the Sim card issue. The lady apparently did not have any knowledge of the Sim card needed to call globally and still sold Mr Phua a Sim card that Doesnt call Globally. This incurred Mr Phua roughly 300RMB as there is NO refund. If we were in Singapore we would have probably scolded the person and sue her.[however this left the impression on the kind of level of service Wuhan had]. Chin xiang and the other guys went to explore desperately searching for a Sim card to call globally with no strings attached or whatsoever and finally found a shop that sold a Sim card that can call back to Singapore. I was so relieved as i could finally call back to Singapore. . I realised that if i want to get something done i got to do it myself as “Experiencing first-hand is a totally different experience” . The rest all managed to get their cards and we went back to the hostel. By the time we went back it was time for dinner. I went to the side stalls [beef fried rice and fried potato with sauce] to get my dinner. A series of unfortunate events occurred. As i walk back to the hotel, my plastic bag broke, spilling my drink at the roadside. I was like “Oh man, wasted”. I decided to go back and buy the drink again from the roadside. As i reached back to the hostel, i missed the chance to get the internet cable cause we followed the lecturer to buy Sim card for International calls and was not present at the hostel for the IT expert to give us our internet cable. I was so disappointed as i really need it for my journal submission and to “Skype” [an alternative to Msn video call] to my parents. We celebrating Willis birthday at midnight before prepared to sleep. Then something comical happen. Teckyi, my roommate found cockroach near his bed and screamed. It was so funny cause he jumped to my bed. This remaining days is sure going to be fun with such interesting people like Chin Xiang and Teckiyi as roommates.
ok thats all for now!!
/till then a prayer for you and me
